MPB Communications Unveils Latest Innovations in Optical Amplification, Laser Technologies, and Deep Space Communication

March 10, 2025 – MPB Communications Inc. (MPBC), a leader in optical amplification and laser technologies, unveils its latest innovations aimed at advancing optical networking, research, and deep space communications. Among the new offerings are the High-Performance O-Band Amplifier for test and measurement applications, S-band Distributed Raman Amplifiers for use in ultra-wideband DWDM repeatered links, and the High-Power PPM 20W Source for deep space optical communications. These state-of-the-art solutions are designed to meet the growing demands of high-performance optical systems in telecommunications, space communications, and research settings.

High-Performance O-Band Amplifier:

Designed for lab and production environments, MPBC’s High-Performance O-Band Amplifier uses silica Bismuth-doped fiber to provide superior performance in optical measurement and research applications. With a broad amplification bandwidth centered at 1300 nm, low noise figure, polarization-insensitive gain, and real-time input/output signal power monitors, this amplifier delivers precision control and high-quality amplification with minimal distortion.

MPBC also introduces its S-band Distributed Raman Amplifiers for ultra-wideband DWDM repeatered links, addressing the need for increased network capacity over existing metro-regional fiber deployments. By combining only three pump wavelengths, these amplifiers deliver tailored Raman gain across the S-, C-, and L-bands and compensate for inter-channel power transfer, ensuring optimal performance in long-haul repeatered optical fiber systems.

  • Inter-Channel Power Transfer Compensation: Guarantees consistent and reliable performance across multiple channels.
  • Ultra-Wideband Capability: Ideal for enhancing network capacity in long-haul optical fiber systems.

High-Power PPM 20W Source for Deep Space Optical Communications:

In addition, MPBC will be demonstrating its High-Power PPM 20W Source for Deep Space Optical Communications. This unit incorporates a polarization-maintaining Erbium-Ytterbium fiber amplifier delivering 20W of average power across a wide range of PPM formats, from 4-PPM to 128-PPM, and slot durations ranging from 2 ns to 32 ns. Compliant with the CCSDS 141x0b1 standard for laser linewidth and spillover emissions, the system enables communication distances over twice that of current deep-space optical transmitters. With data rates up to 0.8 Mb/s at approximately 10 AU, this system provides a scalable and highly efficient solution for deep-space laser communication, enhancing the capabilities of space exploration and communication.
